excerpt from "The Life and Times of Mossie Fox" (my current project)

Mary Emma had a real playhouse in her backyard, and it was nice. They would go into her mama's kitchen, get some cold cornbread, then go to the garden and pick some green onions, then go out into the playhouse. Now you wouldn't think this was good, but it was good. They would have a meal of green onions dipped in salt and cold cornbread. They liked that. Isn't that tacky?

and when they call me on a mish shionnnnnn....

With much joy and excitement Vanessa and I sent Seth on his merry way to the MTC, eventually he's headed to Albania, and I don't even know where that is. I felt a little sorry for him, because it's going to be hard, but I stopped feeling sad for him pretty quick when I remembered what a great thing the mission was for me. Hooray! Vanessa is really good at dropping people off at the MTC. She lovingly and briskly shoos you on your way! No time for tears, sobbing, or lingering hugs, "onward ever onward."

what are you working on?

little (bigger than me) brothers

Andrew is something else. I'm in Idaho this weekend so I've been able to see him in action. He likes guns, blogging, his dogs Sheila and Rudy, and most recently he likes girls. The braces came off a couple weeks ago, I think that's only the beginning of the development of this handsome man's charm. Girls, beware.

fry sauce anyone?

The fog is lifting. side note: I spend waaaay too much time alone. I had a critique yesterday, and one today. Along with critiquing my artwork, my teachers and classmates also give out little motivational speeches, philosophical bits of wisdom and then it almost turns into a little testimony meeting. The details of the conversation aren' t that pertinent to anyone else but me, so I'm just saying that I feel invigorated and am ready to "get back on the horse and ride." Amen.

If anyone needs a pep talk or motivational speech, let me know. I'll either cheer you up, or eat fries with you, both good choices.

This was my Saturday project: It's a mix of the 70's and Picasso. Not quite what I was going for. I'm still learning how to make my aquatints not too dark. I'm embarrassed to tell you also that the image was inspired from a photo of a great grandmother, a horrible resemblance I know. This was a little collaborative class project. I enjoyed making the sparkly skirt. And yes, that is a lock of my own hair in there. This mixed-media piece was made on a piece of aluminum for a show in NY or something, where they put the art in a plastic sleeve and it will go on display like that, passed around in a binder. Interesting....kind of weird...
I have finally managed to make a soft and moist cake in this altitude. It's white cake with raspberry filling and 7 minute frosting! Yum.

Lastly, for all you curly tops out there, may I recommend Paul Mitchell's "Round Trip." Bring back those baby locks! (I had ringlets as a child for those of you who don't remember.) It makes soft natural looking curls (never crunchy). Just put it in after the shower, dry it with a diffuser, and you've got rad hair in seconds! (see photo: radness)

company comes

I was so happy that Emily, Galen, and Lissa came for conference. They are so fun, kind, and great! We didn't need any great plans, I just enjoy passing the time with them. We hit up the one world cafe in Salt Lake (I had a garbanzo bean and banana dish), toured the BYU art museum (they had an exhibit on ballet, with a video of dances playing which we made interactive by dancing with the video), and we visited lots of people. Thanks be to God for good friends!

My first Barbie at 25 years old

My next projects are going to involve Barbie. I had to purchase a brand new Barbie in order to start. It's just like buying macaroni and cheese, generic versions just don't cut it. Going along with that, used Barbies aren't acceptable.

Cousins

I got to see the Washingtons on Saturday. They're sweet. We went to Wendy's together. Noah is a big fan of the "baconator," but he settled for the dollar menu (2 bacon cheeseburgers). Tori and Monique and I also made gums and teeth out of Mambas. good times! It's refreshing to be able to spend time with family: people who have known you for a long time. No need for explanations, no introductions, you don't have to talk about all the implications of your field of study, or where you're from, how many kids are in your family, where you went on a mission...etc. Plus, your family loves you...no matter what!
